In this day and age i think it wrong that there is only one day dedicated to women's rights. However i still think that today all women everywhere should rejoice and take this day to acknowledge all the amazing women in our lives. With the 'He for She' movement gaining much needed attention and feminists being seen as more than just their stereotype of anti male females, i decided to write this blog showing my support towards all women's rights. I am a proud woman, i am proud of all women. I believe that in modern day society women should be seen as equals to men, we deserve the same rights, same pay to men. I still shocks me that in some countries women aren't allowed to get an education, are sold like items of possession and are raped on public transport and are told they should have just 'let it happen' and that it is 'their own faults'. Before i rant on anymore i would like to say that i am proud to be british. I am so proud to live in a country where i can be educated, choose my own career and not live in fear of men because our laws and courts are so amazing. I will never let a man or any other person take control of me or tell me what to do because i am a british woman which means i have rights, i have my own mind which i am grateful for. Yes, i am a feminist. Any woman or girl who says they aren't a feminist are going against centuries of women dying, fasting and injuring themselves for our rights. If you aren't a feminist you seriously need to think about your upbringing. Your education, your safety in society, the fact you can have any job you desire... none of this would have happened if not for the feminists before you. Now i would like to take this day to say a huge thank you to all the women in my life such as my mother, my nan's, my sister, my best friends, my female teachers, royalty, nurses, police women and every other woman who has allowed me to live a fair, educated, safe and healthy life. Thank-you. Most of all my mom. To the woman who has raised me, given me life, taken care of me when i was ill, given me the biggest smile and most amazing memories. For allowing me to become the woman i am today. Without you i would be nothing and without you i would be lost. I love you. Happy International Women's Day everyone. |
